• Congressional action protects Hispanic families from costly vehicle mandates that would eliminate affordable transportation options
  • California’s activist policies disproportionately attack Hispanic communities already facing higher transportation costs

WASHINGTON, D.C.The National Hispanic Energy Council (NHEC), founded to bring a Hispanic voice to the energy policy debate, today applauded Congress and President Trump for signing into law three critical Congressional Review Act resolutions that block California’s restrictive vehicle mandates from being imposed on Hispanic families across the nation.

The three resolutions – H.J.Res.87, H.J.Res.88, and H.J.Res.89 – were signed into law by President Trump today, effectively stopping California’s vehicle mandates from attacking Hispanic communities through activist EPA waivers.

“These California mandates are a direct attack on Hispanic families who are already struggling with disproportionately higher transportation costs,” said NHEC Chairman Julio Fuentes. “President Trump’s action protects Hispanic entrepreneurs and working families from activist policies that limit vehicle choices and drive up costs. Hispanic families deserve affordable and reliable transportation, not unfair government mandates.”

The blocked mandates would have particularly impacted Hispanic business owners, who start businesses at 3 to 5 times the rate of any other segment, by limiting transportation options and increasing costs. Electric vehicles cost approximately $12,000 more than gas-powered alternatives, while charging infrastructure remains limited in Hispanic communities.

“These activists push through policies that serve their ideological goals rather than helping the Hispanic families who actually live in these communities,” said Fuentes. “President Trump’s signing of these resolutions represents a crucial victory for Hispanic families and entrepreneurs, as well as a victory for common-sense policy that puts Hispanic families first.”

About The National Hispanic Energy Council

The National Hispanic Energy Council (NHEC) is founded on the principle of fair and equitable energy for all Americans, driven by the urgent need to reduce the disproportionately higher energy and transportation costs Hispanic families pay compared to the median American family. Drawing on expertise from across the economy and Hispanic community, we exist to fill a void in advocacy: a voice for energy policies that helps Hispanic families, businesses and entrepreneurs. The Council is building a bipartisan coalition of leaders of Hispanic groups across the country, and exists to educate elected officials, policy makers and the Hispanic public on what good energy policy choices look like.
